I plan on watching the leader’s debate this evening, along with at least a large chunk of the rest of the country, I’m sure.
I did manage to get a sneak preview though. I watched en Francais (with a translator, of course) on cpac yesterday.
I didn’t know that Jack Layton was born in Quebec, and Paul Martin has obviously been practicing his second official language for quite a few years.
It goes without saying that Gilles Duceppe is fluent (and presented some pretty good arguments) – though I’m not sure what his English skills are like, or how that will reflect on his ability to debate successfully tonight. A good debate is all about being quick, both in wit and language.
The highlight of the evening though, was Stephen Harper‘s attempt to debate in French. Frankly, he sucks. If you saw the episode of Friends where Joey tries to speak French, it was almost that bad. Also, I think the man must use Botox. His beady little eyes never squinted, and his helmet-coif never moved. But the sounds coming out of his mouth – oh my.
