Where the hell have I been? I snagged this little gem off of Darren Barefoot’s site, and was pleasantly amazed and surprised.
For some stupid reason, I always thought that Van Morrison belonged in amongst the ranks of Van Halen. So this morning, I tuned up the ol’ file sharing program, and went on the hunt for more Van Morrison to feed my soul. I had no idea that all of those songs that are some of my favourite classics are by Van Morrison.
This exactly the kind of music I crave on a not-so-nice-but-not-not-nice Saturday morning (like today) to accompany my coffee and biscotti.
So after you’ve all finished stoning me for my musical ignorance, what’s your favourite Van song? What should I be sure not to miss?
If you have a robust email account (like, say, a Gmail account), I can hook you up with many of my favourites. Or maybe I can just upload them for you. Drop me an email.
This combinations of Ring Worm/You Say France And I Whistle/Want A Danish are three songs from a bunch of short, nonsensical tunes that Van wrote to get out of a contractual obligation. They’re actually quite catchy (and funny as hell). The songs were eventually released as part of a “Lost Tapes” collection. Lyrics here.
I also like Chick-A-Boom. Again, not the most sensical of songs, but it’s upbeat and catchy as all get-out.
Brown Eyed Girl, of course 🙂
