An Open Letter to the Five “big” local FM stations:
Dear DJs,
Can we stop with the sad songs each and every song all day long today? Even the rock station is playing weepy Emo songs. And when the country station is starting to sound the most optimistic – well there’s a problem. I’ve really had about enough.
All this girl wants is to rock out. Is that too much to ask?
Much Love,
-peechie
To the people with the ever-so-handy suggestions of not listening to the radio: note that many of us don’t have the sort of choices that would allow us to play mp3’s or shoutcast from work. 🙂
To the tune of the obvious Elton John song:
“Sad songs they play so much…”
it’s all about the shoutcast. HHUK radio all the way for me.
another solution:
drop the radio.
listen to mp3’s of your choice.
Rock 101 seems to be pretty consistantly good. They play a LOT of Beatles (to cover Donna’s point) – just the other day on my way to school, they played the whole first side of the White Album, just for the hell of it. Also, every weekday at 8pm they play an entire side of a classic album – they do Supertramp, Floyd, Zepplin, Stones, Beatles, and all sorts of other stuff. There’s also the “Beatles Breakfast”, where they play a whole hour of Beatles every Sunday morning from 8-9.
For the “hard” station, Fox 99.3, I find that they play a good sampling of mainstream “hard” music. Of course, mainstream “hard” music is shit like Staind, Nickelback, etc., so it all sounds the same and has lyrics that could have been written by angsty 10th grade suburban white girls. Fox is good at noon, though, because they do an hour of 90’s stuff, so you’ll hear some Nirvana, Chilli Peppers, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, etc. That stuff counts as good “rock out” music to me.
Nothing on the rap/hip-hop or Z95.3 will ever be rated as “rock out” music in my books, but are they sad songs? I can’t really listen to those stations for more than 30 seconds, so I don’t know if it’s happy stuff or not.
what would you do, if I sang out of tune…
damn, you’re right. They don’t play upbeat songs anymore.
