VACATION, GOT TO GET AWAY!
And away I’m getting!
I’ll be catching the red-eye to Toronto on March 25th to arrive in Miami on the 26th. I’m staying in Miami 1 night, and then flying over to Grand Cayman on the 27th to stay with a friend & soak up the sun for a week.
I fly back to Miami sometime on the 31st to spend 1 more night in Miami, and leave there at 11:30am on the 1st to get back to Vancouver at about 6:00pm.
So if you have any recommendations on what to see/do on a Sunday afternoon/evening and/or Friday Night in Miami, please let me know.
Otherwise, I’ll make sure I drink a mojito on the beach for each of you while I’m gone!
Miami! I grew up down there and am so envious of your trip. It’s been awhile since I’ve gone back but it’s nice this time of the year.
Recommendations:
o Have lunch in Little Havana if haven’t tried Cuban food before. (Fried plantains!) Have a traditional Cuban sandwich. And if you dig caffeine, try Cuban coffee (think espresso extreme).
o South Beach! A friend of mine was down there recently and she said the place to be is the Clevelander Hotel.

o Take a stroll through Coconut Grove and the Art Deco District. If you remember watching Miami Vice, you’ll recognize some of the architecture.
o Beaches. You won’t have to go far to find sand and surf. But if you want to find a spot that’s away from the glitzy hotels, try Key Biscayne, which will also give you a nice view of Miami from off-shore.
Have a great trip!
OMG!! Never mind Miami – have you ever been to Grand Cayman before??? Sting Ray City, 7 Mile Beach, The Turtle Farm, Hell, diving the wall, feeding the wild giant sea turtles in front of Victoria House at 6:30 in the morning – with puppy chow no less! Feeding the giant angel fish with spray in a can cheese whiz! Snorkeling the cemetary, Eden Point, the East End aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!! Eating Tortuga Rum Cake!!!! My girlfriend just came back last Thurs from 3 weeks there and brought us back a Tortuga Rum Cake. It’s the best thing in the world!! Can I beg you to bring you back another one for us – we’ll pay you of course – even though you don’t know me??? What better way to meet each other! Come over and visit us before you go and we’ll show you our slides of our 3 weeks there!! 🙂 🙂 You will have the time of your life!!
one mojito? no. 5 for me. alone.
have lots of fun!
hey girl well I have a suggestion you will have to call my friend Jason while you are in Caymen I am sure he would love to see you……
Yay! I so loved Grand Caymen the few times I’ve been there. I know you’ll have a fab time!
Careful in Miami though! Man, that place is dangerous. I remember almost getting shot once. Then again, that was because my EX had a big mouth on him, and kicked a moving car. …Yep, that would do it.
Haha… I won’t poke the natives or feed the animals :p
But will you let the natives poke you? (sorry, just had to!)
Heh!! Chris, you beat me to it.
And, my comment should read, er: “Grand Cayman” — What can I say, I was in a hurry!
On one of my many trips to Colombia (work related), I missed a connecting flight in Miami so I had ot spend the night there in one of their free “Oops. sorry we screwed up so here’s a cr*ppy hotel room that relly resembles a prison cell” suites. Anyways, long story short, I could have ordered dolphin for dinner, and I never did and I regret it to this day. There really are only two types of people in the world – those who have eaten dolphin and those that haven’t. I would have been the former.
The point of this? When in Miami, try the dolphin or you’ll regret it the rest of your life.
In Vancouver, I don’t think it’s that hard to find dolphin on the menu, except that here it’s better known as mahi mahi.
It’s not bad, though personally I prefer grouper.
Mahi Mahi is dolphin fish, not dolphin. A dolphin is a mammal and completely unrelated.
I’m pretty sure it’s not legal to eat dolphin in North America.
Congrats. I’m officially jealous!
Dammit, if the menu says “DOLPHIN”, then I had better have Flipper grinning up at me from the plate.
